Heat lamp
Many products have a heat lamp. This biltong box deliberately does not have a heat source, as biltong was never traditionally made with heat. It is a cured product, not a dried one. Although heat can speed up the drying process, it results in lower quality biltong. The fan of this BiltongMaker produces a continuous stream of cool air which gently dehydrates the biltong while the spices supplied mature the biltong. Cool, dry air produces the best quality biltong!

In addition, the use of a heat source such as a light bulb can pose a health risk if the temperature is not thermostatically controlled.
